about me
If one word were to sum up everything that Amit Vaidya, Ph.D., stands for today – it is the quest for acquiring and sharing knowledge. Always finding room to learn through his rich experiences and unique circumstances, Amit has lived his life as proof – to accept and achieve and thus to inspire.
As a cancer survivor who reversed his destiny from stage IV to remission, Amit has taken a journey that many have been unable to return from successfully. It is his will, his spirit and most importantly, that thirst for life and his building knowledge that provided him this second life. Over the past decade plus, Amit has served not just as a patient but as a caregiver and medical health advocate for others. He has thorough understanding and appreciation of both the allopathic and alternative therapy worlds. His knowledge of all things health-related from nutrition to diet to medicines to ailments and treatment options is unmatched. Today, he consults with patients from all wakes of life with a specialty for working with cancer and/or end-of-life patients. This role has become his mission inspite of his education and professional background stem from the academic, entertainment and finance industries.
While all of his experiences thankfully secured him the ability to take the time needed to focus on his health when diagnosed, it also served as a catalyst towards the world of lectures, motivational talks and speeches.
He has spoken at numerous workshops and conferences for various organizations including WPO/YPO, American Cancer Society, Urban Zen, the Max Foundation, National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Health and the AYUSH - Ministry of Health in India. Amit was a featured panelist at the 2015 Tata Literature Live! He has addressed schools, college campuses and medical associations including CMS-Bangalore, Xavier’s College-Mumbai, American Embassy School-Delhi and the Hyderabad Medical Association.
He shares his writings with The Speaking Tree, blogs for Huffington Post, is a featured international contributor to Yogi Beings and writes a monthly column in Man's World.
He is a daily practitioner of meditation and yoga as well as an avid runner. Leading by example - he is a well-respected expert on food and is known to make some incredible dishes from various cuisines with the underlying message of 'food is medicine'. Given his connection to nature and particularly to cows, Amit is a strong advocate for desi cows and has spent a large part of time educating individuals as to the health benefits of desi cows and the need for its preservation in Indian culture, working in tandem with such organizations as Holy Cow Foundation-Delhi, Desi Cows For Better India-Bangalore and Parampara-Chennai.
Amit's routine also includes ensuring he is celebrating life at every moment whether it is singing with a house band at a resort, deejaying the city crowd on a Saturday night at a local hotspot or spending the day with children in impoverished areas teaching them about the world. His life is inspiring but his gift is the inspiration he brings to others whether it’s a patient, a student, a corporation or a stranger he meets on the street.
Amit’s journey has been well-chronicled – his story has had universal appeal and admiration as indicated by the number of media outlets that have featured him which includes: Hindustan Times, The Hindu, The Pioneer, The Economic Times, The New Indian Express, The Week, Mumbai Mirror, Ahmedabad Mirror, Bangalore Mirror, Man’s World India, Smart Health, Life Positive, thewire.in, scroll.in and indiaspend.com amongst others.
